About the film

 

Synopsis

Colombian cinema legend, Victor Gaviria, welcomes his daughter Mercedes back to their hometown for the production of his newest film. As Mercedes documents her father's distinctive and contentious creative process, she concurrently delves into the extensive archive of familial footage Victor has accumulated over the years. Amid the clashing perspectives of two directors, Mercedes reconciles the complexities of her family dynamics and contemplates the part women play in the film industry

About the Director

 

Mercedes Gaviria Jaramillo, born in Medellín, Colombia in 1992, is a distinguished film director and sound technician. Graduating from the Universidad del Cine in 2016, she has since made significant strides in her career, with her short film "Silencio antes" (2016) receiving recognition at film festivals such as FICCI and BAFICI.

In 2018, she was bestowed the ASA's Award for Best Sound for her work on "The Daughters of Fire" by Albertina Carri at BAFICI. That same year, she completed the esteemed Postgraduate Film Program at Torcuato di Tella University.

Her debut feature film, "The Calm After the Storm", further showcases her distinctive directorial voice. In addition to her creative pursuits, Mercedes imparts her knowledge of sound at FUC and dedicates herself to sound post-production at her studio in Atalante.

GUIDO SEGAL

Guido Segal

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Segal moved to 
Los Angeles to pursue his MFA in Screenwriting at UCLA in 2016. He has worked as a journalist and a film critic in Argentina and Spain and was a Jury Member at la Semaine de la Critique during the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Segal worked as a documentary filmmaker for History and Discovery Channel and has considerable experience as an assistant director and screenwriter in Argentine films. He co-wrote the films Leones (2012), and Kékzsakállú (2016), both of which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. He was staffed in three Argentine TV shows: Un año para recordar, La Asombrosa Excursión de Zamba and Siesta Z, which was selected for the Power to the Pixel conference in London. His screenplays have been nominated for two International Emmy awards and have won one Martin Fierro award. Segal has taught Screenwriting and Film Analysis at Universidad del Cine (Buenos Aires), Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), TAMK University (Tampere, Finland) and UCLA, which selected him as a Telluride Film Festival FilmLab Fellow. In 2019, he was a fellow at the Tomorrow's Filmmakers Today program hosted by Hola Mexico and HBO. His feature films Curupira and Dark Star will premiere internationally in 2022. He is currently the Program Director for the Latin American Cinemateca of Los Angeles (LACLA).
